The “mud angels” were volunteers from all over the world who helped to prevent the destruction of thousands of books, art pieces, frescos, and sculptures during the devastating flood of 1966. The flood brought together various individuals from different backgrounds for the common purpose of saving irreplaceable historical documents. In other words, the flood merged together the citizens of Florence since the flood, the mud angels have been commemorated for all of the contributions that were made to the city of Florence this museum has been designed to properly pay homage to all of those that contributed to preservation during the Flood of 1966.
